APELLA Announces Strategic Equity Partnership with AEGEAN
APELLA announces that Olympic Air, a subsidiary of AEGEAN, has acquired a 45% equity stake in the company. The investment was completed through a combination of the acquisition of existing shares and a capital increase in APELLA. Following the transaction, Dr. Nikos Kontoyannis remains Chief Executive Officer and majority shareholder (55%) of APELLA.
As part of its long-term growth strategy, APELLA is planning the development of a new aircraft maintenance facility in Almyros, on a privately owned 100,000 sqm site located near Nea Anchialos Airport in central Greece. The project envisions direct connectivity to the airport and the phased development of infrastructure, initially supporting aircraft parking and disassembly, and subsequently expanding into aircraft painting and heavy maintenance services.
The partnership with AEGEAN supports APELLA’s as well as AEGEAN's strategic objectives to expand their capabilities in heavy aircraft maintenance, accelerate infrastructure development, and strengthen the country's position as a regional aviation maintenance and technical support hub, by creating synergies and facilitating knowledge exchange.
Commenting on the partnership, Dr. Nikos Kontoyannis, CEO of APELLA, stated:
“We are extremely excited to welcome AEGEAN to the APELLA family. AEGEAN’s investment represents a strong endorsement of APELLA’s vision, technical capabilities, and growth trajectory. This collaboration creates strong opportunities for strengthening infrastructure, developing new heavy maintenance services, and establishing Greece as a regional hub for aviation technical support, with a strong emphasis on quality, safety, and international outreach.”
Mr. Dimitris Gerogiannis, Chief Executive Officer of AEGEAN, stated:
“As we had indicated from the outset of our investment in the Maintenance and Training Center, our goal is to gradually create an ecosystem of complementary expertise and support and development capabilities across the broader sector. Our participation and collaboration with APELLA and Dr. Nikos Kontoyannis represents a significant step in that direction.”
